Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika on Friday August 15, 2025 explained various projects her administration has initiated in Nakuru Town West Constituency.
The Governor was speaking during the opinion leaders’ consultative meeting held in London Ward.
Kihika noted that the meeting was key in reviewing development progress and discussing new initiatives for enhancing community’s social and economic well-being.
During the Meeting, the first time serving female Governor for Nakuru County was joined by MPs Lisa Chelule, David Gikaria, Joseph Tonui, Charity Kathambi, Irene Njoki, Samuel Gachobe, and Paul Chebor in what she termed as a strong show of unity and shared commitment to advancing development in Nakuru County.
In her highlight of key milestones in Nakuru West sub-county, Governor Kihika noted that in the past financial year, her administration allocated Ksh 440 million in bursaries countywide of which over Kshs. 55 million was disbursed in Nakuru Town West alone, benefiting more than 8,000 learners.
She also singled out Uji Program that has increased increased school enrollment from 59,000 to 65,000 learners across the county.
According to Kihika, in Nakuru Town West, 2,843 learners in 42 ECDE centers have benefited.
“We’ve improved ECDE infrastructure, including solar-powered boreholes at Heshima and Kaptembwo centers,” she said.
Kihika also used the moment to urge parents to enroll children in vocational training, supported by a Kshs 30,000 county subsidy.
This, even as she revealed that Kaptembwa and Mwariki/Rhonda VTCs will open in January.
On matters healthcare, Kihika was categorical that the sector has also seen significant progress.
She pointed out that Nakuru Town West hosts the Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital, which is now better equipped to serve Nakuru and 10 neighboring counties.
Enhancements, according to Kihika include a new Mother and Baby Unit (with the Margaret Kenyatta Kangaroo Mothers section and specialized Newborn Unit), 13 dialysis machines, improved oncology services, and eye unit renovations.
Infrastructure upgrades include nearing completion of acceleration and deceleration lanes at PGH Level 5, easing traffic.
On matters drainage, the County boss revealed that a new drainage system is complete in Highridge Estate, and similar works are done in Shabaab Ward, Gilani Estate, and around Nakuru West Health Centre.
Through the Wezesha Fund, Kihika’s administration has disbursed funds to local groups like Flying Colours SHG, Shujaa Mwega SHG, Friends of Vision, Reality Nakuru Sacco and Muungano wa Wanavijiji among others.
“We also announced a new Kshs 30 million fund to support the bodaboda sector,” she said.
In water provision, Kihika told residents of Nakuru West that the county government has an anti-chlorine machine that serves 200 households via the Kapnandi Borehole (Kapkures Ward), while the Mogoon Resource Centre supplies water to 300 households after completing pump and tank installations.
Sports sector is not left behind as the County Government of Nakuru continues to invest in sports and will launch the Governor’s Cup from October to December.
The Governor who is seeking re-election in 2027, used the moment to urge residents of Nakuru County to support President William Ruto’s second term.
