The Senate Joint Legal Affairs & Human Rights Committee (JLAHRC) on Tuesday discussed Activist’s petition on recalling Nominated MCAs.
Nakuru-based Activist Laban Omusundi tabled the petition before Senate for consideration.
JLHRC chaired by Senator Hillary Sigei, went through the Petition.
The Petition proposes an amendment to the County Governments Act to provide a framework for the recall of nominated Members of the County Assemblies.
According to the Chair of the committee, during the Tuesday session, the committee reviewed responses from key stakeholders such as the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC) and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
The discussion emphasized on ensuring that the recall mechanism remains fair and is not misused for political advantage, while strengthening accountability and transparency in local governance.
