Bahati MP Irene Njoki has continued to impact livelihoods through her Mrembo Care Programme.
The Lawmaker reveals that through the program, a total 500 elderly residents across all five wards of Bahati Constituency have been supported with SHA cover
She says this has helped ease the healthcare burden for some of the senior citizens and their families.
While health is a devolved function, MP Njoki believes she still has a responsibility to use every avenue within her mandate to support constituents and complement the work being done in healthcare.
She reiterates that Community Health Promoters (CHPs) remain a vital link between families and health facilities through health education, referrals and follow up.
The Mrembo Care Program is a social welfare and healthcare initiative that was launched by MP Njoki targeting Senior citizens, elderly residents, and vulnerable members of society across all five wards of Bahati Constituency.
The program provides fully paid Social Health Authority (SHA) health insurance cover for 500 elderly and vulnerable residents to ease the burden of out-of-pocket medical bills and hospital fundraising (harambees).
It works in tandem with broader welfare goals, facilitating the enrollment of thousands of elders into national safety net programs like the Inua Jamii Fund.
The initiative organizes large-scale senior citizen wellness forums and medical outreach events, bringing together local leaders, health promoters, and thousands of elders to prioritize healthy aging and social support.
