From NHIF to SHA (Social Health Authority)
Four Bills accented by President Ruto last year under the Social Health Authority Bill have presented to us SHA.
They are;
1.Social Health Insurance Bill
2.Digital Health Bill
3.Facility Improvement Financing Bill
4.Primary Health Care Bill
Another Bill in the various stages of Parliament is the Quality Authority Bill which will ensure the quality of services in our Health centers is of a certain standard.Afya Bora sio bora afya.
Minimum contributions are ksh 300 and a maximum of ksh 5000 while Kenyans in the informal settlements will contribute 2.75% of their earnings.
Benefits of SHA include but are limited to;
1. More resources will be channeled to Primary Health Care leading to enhanced quality of services in our level 2 & 3 facilities.
2. Resources have been allocated to cover emergencies and chronic care which was a challenge under NHIF
3. 100,000 Community Health Promoters (CHP’s) have been hired (in some Counties, and some the process is ongoing) and will integrate services across all Counties.
4. Digitization of Health records will enhance research in the medical field, academia, and treatment of patients in different facilities
5. Kenyans who have registered but not able to pay the stipulated amounts will benefit as opposed to the NHIF model.
