Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Bahati MP Irene Njoki and Deputy Governor David Kones on Thursday May 16, 2024 led the ground breaking and laying foundation stone for the construction of a modern two-storey Modern Market at Kabatini.
The Project is a collaboration between the National and County Government.
According to leaders, the project will radically change the economy of Kabatini Centre, providibg a conducive environment for traders as it alters and introduces modernity to the area landscape.
The modern market, which is expected to be completed in the next five months, will house facilities such as social halls, cold storage, daycare services (creche), an ICT hub, accommodation offices, a revenue centre, banking institutions, a food court, an ATM lobby and modern washrooms including provisions for PWDs.
“I was glad to lay the foundation of the market that will remove our traders who now sell their wares by the roadside,” stated Kihika.
Governor Kihika used the moment to call on the traders to form Saccos in order to benefit from the County Enterprise Fund which will be launched soon.
She also requested area MCA to help identify land on which a Ward Cooperatives Centre will be constructed to house all cooperatives in the ward.
Kihika also used the opportunity to highlight key water projects that have been implemented by her administration.
Meanwhile, she promised to construct a modern Maternity Wing at the Kabatini Health Centre.
We have also processed 250 title deeds for land owners in Kabatini Centre which we will soon distribute,” Kihika assured.
Further, she promised to bring together coffee farmers in the area into cooperatives in order to access the National Government Cherry Fund.
The event was also graced by County Women Representatives Florence Jematia (Baringo), Rahab Mukami ( Nyeri) and area MCA Leah Nganga.
