Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has called on Kenyans to rally behind G7 formation of the Council of Governors.
The formation brings together the seven elected female.
Speaking in Homabay on Monday February 26, 2024 during the Pre-launch of the G7 strategy ahead of the second Homabay International Investment Conference 2024, Kihika said the only way the voice of women can be strengthened is through more elective positions.
She said, moving forward, the G7 will work to ensure additional of Female Governors to even 16 from the current seven.
“We need total support to ensure we move from G7 to G16,” stated Kihika.
Kihika also used the moment to laud Governor Gladys Wanga’s development agenda.
While citing bursary allocation towards Education and improved health standards in Homabay by Governor Wanga, Kihika said such initiatives should be supported.
“I will be wrong if I sit down without recognizing what my colleague Governor Wanga has done for the people of Homabay in a very short time. What she has done, takes other governors more years to accomplish. Therefore we need to support her,” stated Kihika.
According to Kihika, under the G7 Strategy developed by the Council of Governors, they will work to increase the number of women Governors in the next elections.
This will be enabled through mentorship, resource mobilization and strategic campaigns.
