In collaboration with students from the University of Amsterdam, Egerton University (Egerton University Environmental Association – EUEA), and Kabarak University, he organized a hike for ecosystem restoration in Elementaita, Gilgil Sub County of Nakuru.

According to Masanga, this initiative was not just about enjoying the breathtaking landscapes but also about taking direct action to restore degraded ecosystems.

During the hike, participants engaged in seed balling—an innovative reforestation technique that involves dispersing pre-packaged seeds encased in a nutrient-rich mixture.

Masanga revealed that this method, pioneered by Seed Balls Kenya, helps regenerate forests and grasslands in arid and semi-arid areas by enabling seeds to germinate when conditions are favorable.

“I have been at the forefront of environmental conservation, actively mobilizing communities, students, and organizations to participate in restoration activities. I believe we all have a role towards restoration of environment,” he stated.

Masanga’s work aligns with global efforts to combat climate change, restore biodiversity, and promote sustainable ecosystems.

By integrating environmental awareness with hands-on conservation activities, Masanga continues to inspire a new generation of eco-conscious individuals.

A special acknowledgment goes to Seed Balls Kenya, whose innovative approach is making reforestation more accessible and effective.

Their seed balls require no expensive planting techniques and have been successfully used to restore degraded areas across Kenya.

“Thanks to their efforts, initiatives like this hike can have a lasting environmental impact,” stated Masanga.

According to him, small actions, when sustained over time, lead to significant change.

He added that the success of this event is a testament to the power of collective effort in environmental conservation.

Masanga also thanked everyone who participated.

He is optimistic that such initiatives will go a long way in fostering a greener and healthier planet.
