Westway School in Gilgil held elections for students’ leaders over the weekend.
The elections were fully conducted by officials from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The learners elected School’s President, Governors in every class as well as departmental delegates.

Speaking during the exercise, the School’s Director Anne Njenga lauded the IEBC for conducting the exercise in a a transparent manner that saw all the students accept the outcome.
She noted that the election of student leaders is part and parcel of the current Competency based Curriculum(CBC).
According to the Director, this is a practical aspect of understanding matters governance both at county and national level for learners.
Njenga lauded the government for initiating the CBC, adding that it is the best as it prepares learners towards action.
“I would like to congratulate Government of Kenya for the ongoing CBC implementation. This is inorder as it prepares learners to action. Like what we have done through the elections is key as some of these learners in future will be voters and even vie various seats,” she stated.
Westway School Gilgil prides in being the jun of CBC as learners put to practice what they learn.
According to Director Njenga, already teachers have been taken through training and with incorporation of ICT to equip themselves.
“I can confidently say that Westway School is the CBC Hub because we are doing it the professional way to ensure our learners get the best,” said Anne.
The Westway School Director also appealed on Government to ensure school managers are competent to enable smooth run of schools as CBC requires.
