Nakuru Iron Lady Asumpta Wangui and human rights defender Maimuna Mwinyi were on Thursday July 3, 2025 grilled by DCI Nakuru over linkage to forthcoming SabaSaba meeting.
Asumpta was summoned by DCIO Nakuru linking her to the mobilization and planning of forthcoming SabaSaba meeting in Nakuru.
Human Rights Defenders and members of the DCP Party that Asumpta subscribes to camped outside the DCI offices in Nakuru in solidarity with Asumpta.
However, Ms Maimuna Mwinyi who also visited in solidarity was shocked after DCI turned against her demanding that she also records statement in connection to the mobilization of protests in Nakuru.
Through their Advocates led by Mugendi Abuya, the duo were released after the grilling.
Addressing press outside DCI office Nakuru, Advocate Mugendi faulted Governor for trying to infringe on the rights of assembling and picketing or demonstrating as enshrined in the constitution.
He maintained that his clients are law abiding citizens who have no bad intentions whatsoever.
According to Abuya, they are ready to cooperate with the DCI if they feel there are any charges against the clients.
He was however quick to point out that Incase of any charges, the DCI should not intimidate anyone but rather should be addressed through the courts.
“If the DCI feel that there are charges against my clients, then they should proceed to the law courts, rather intimidate them,” he stated.
Asumpta on her said maintained that no any form of intimidation will deter her from speaking out and calling out atrocities happening.
According to her, the deaths happening and the abductions everywhere in the country cannot be ignored.
“I will speak until I cannot speak anymore. No intimidation will change our rights,” she stated.
On her part Maimuna was categorical that her work is human rights field and she will not be intimidated.
She maintained that her role has never been to mobilize public for protests….but she has been doing sensitization of public to understand their rights.
