Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Information Communication and Digital Economy William Kabogo has urged Journalists to ensure responsible Journalism.
Speaking in Nakuru on Friday August 14, 2026 during the Launch of Media Council of Kenya strategic Plan 2026-2030 and Elections coverage guidelines 2026
Today, I joined media stakeholders as the Chief Guest during the launch of the Media Council of Kenya’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan and the Election Coverage 2027 Guidelines, the CS noted that media is key in matters elections.
He was however quick to point out that Journalism comes with responsibility and media accountability, professionalism, performance and institutional sustainability remains key.
“As we prepare for the 2027 General Election, there is need for Journalists to remain accurate, responsible and embrace ethical journalism in informing the public and strengthening our democracy,” he said
The CS stated that the early release of the election coverage guidelines will help journalists and media houses prepare adequately for professional and credible election reporting.
He added that the Government remains committed to working closely with the Media Council of Kenya and other industry stakeholders to promote a strong, independent and responsible media sector.
On the recent cases of Journalists being attacked while covering various events, the CS said such is uncalled for adding that the safety of Journalists remains at the core of Government.
He urged media practitioners to work closely with security agencies towards ensuring their safety while on duty.
“It is the duty of government to ensure safety of all Kenyans and that we shall do to ensure safety of journalists while in duty,” he said.
The CS reiterated that the constitution is very clear on matters free press adding that the government will continue to ensure such is respected.
