Journalists based in Nakuru town have a reason to smile following the opening of Nakuru Media Hub by Media Council of Kenya.
The MCK Nakuru Media Hub situated at Section 58 will go a long way in supporting local Journalists and moreso freelance Journalists and independent storytellers by offering production resources, training, and workspace.
The facility has practical rooms for editing, small-scale production, and screenings with Wi-fi services.
The MCK Nakuru Media Hub was officially opened opened on Friday August 14, 2026 by Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Information, Communication and Digital Economy William Kabogo.
Addressing Press after opening the facility, CS Kabogo lauded MCK for opening the Hub which he said will go a long way in assisting journalistic works in Nakuru.
The CS also revealed that such will be encouraged in all other major towns and cities in the country.
“Kenya is growing digitally and that is why we are encouraging such hubs where journalists can do their work in a safe space,” he stated.
Kabogo used the moment to urge Journalists to continue embracing professionalism even as the country heads to General Elections 2027.
The event was also graced by Media Council of Kenya CEO David Omwoyo, Kenya Editors Guild President Zubeida Kananu, Kenya Union of Journalists Secretary General Eric Oduor, Nakuru Journalists among others.
Speaking during the event, Nakuru Journalists Association Chair Mr. Joseph Openda lauded MCK for opening the facility in Nakuru.
He noted that the Media Hub will be of help to journalists in Nakuru as far as their work is concerned, especially to freelance Journalists who have been spending their time and money in Cyber cafes.
According to Openda, the Media Hub will be managed by the Press Clubs.
He used the moment to urge the Nakuru Journalists to embrace the Hub.
“This is a key facility to Journalists as is a safe space where our members will work from,” he said.
Openda also called on Government to ensure safety of Journalists even as the country heads to General Elections 2027.
Purity Kinuthia- a Nakuru-based Journalist was categorical that the Hub will be of great help to journalists’ work in Nakuru.
She reiterated that safe spaces are key to journalists and the hub suits that.
