Nakuru DCP Gubernatorial Aspirant CPA Geoffrey Mwangi has weighed in on the recent BBC documentary exposé on child trafficking and sexual abuse at Mai Mahiu in Naivasha.
Addressing Press in Nakuru on Friday afternoon, Mwangi regretted that such incidents are happening at the watch of government and all the security apparatus.
While condemning the incidents, Mwangi faulted the government for failing to protect the children rights.
“After watching the BBC exposé, I can state here that indeed the government has failed to protect our children. We even saw GenZs being shot and killed while protesting for their rights. I think it is high time we call a spade a spade and ensure actions are taken to safeguard our children,” he stated.
Mwangi also narrowed in to the County Government of Nakuru noting that Nakuru residents elected majority of female leaders.
According to him, the female leaders should be in the frontline in championing for the rights of children and moreso girl child who has now become prey to uncultured society.
“Even here in Nakuru, in 2022 many women leaders were elected into office. They need to start acting to ensure safety of our children,” he stated.
Mwangi did not spare the church either, noting that what was witnessed in Mai Mahiu is a clear indicator that children have lost hope.
According to him, the church should up in shaping behaviours among young people and society at large, and give hope.
“I would like to appeal to the church to play role in giving hope and shaping the morals in society,” he said.
