There is urgent need for a policy towards protection of widows from harsh In-laws.
Tabenacle Widows’ Home Founder Pastor Dr Mary Mugambi says widows have been facing numerous challenges among them harrasment from In-laws.
She decried that this has always been the case especially after women become widows due to the death of their husbands.
The clergy pointed out one unfortunate incident where a widow was chased from matrimonial home immediately after burying her husband and tittle deed was taken away from her by her in-laws.
She added that widows go through a lot of pain in all the spheres of life with some being referred to as women snatchers.
However, she is quick to note that Tabenacle Widows’ Home is bringing change to such.
Dr Mary called on Lawmakers to come up with a policy and laws towards addressing such, so that widows can also enjoy their rights.
“I want to appeal to our Parliament to ensure they come up with policies that will help address this issue and protect widows from in-laws. Lets have law in place such that when a husband dies, then the widow can access justice and inheritance through a specific office,” she stated.
Dr Mary while noting that they have continued to pray for the nation as widows, called on President William Ruto to also think about the welfare of widows.
She pointed out that there is need to come to an end the killings of family husbands due to bandits, land tussles and other issues.
She was speaking on Friday August 8, 2025, at Kirobon Girls’ High School in Rongai Subcounty of Nakuru during Annual Widows’ conference hosted by Tabenacle Widows’ Home.
Tabenacle Widows’ Home Foundation Kenya has been holding such conferences every year for the last 8 years.
The three day meeting that commenced on Thursday will end on Saturday.
Dr. Mary added that they have continued to empower the widows through economic activities.
The widows are now able to make bags and baskets as well as other ornamentals, besides farming with making of beehives.
According to Dr. Mary, bridging the gap in society when it comes to widows is what their focus is.
“We have continued to empower the widows. We pray and work and rely on our own. Hosting this conference is based on the well wishers and volunteers,” she said.
During the event, Tabenacle Widows’ Home Foundation leaders were feted for their exemplary work towards welfare of Widows.
Dr. Mary revealed that the leaders were drawn from a clear structure of leadership.
Among those feted is Mr.Kennedy who has done hospitality, but chose to assist the Ministry for the 8 years by preparing their meals.
“Tabenacle Widows’ Home has a very well organized structure from Ward to county level and the leaders have played key role since they were healed and chose to volunteer in the Ministry they have done great work and that’s why we have appraised them,” she said.
The leaders feted, will also be involved in upcoming project where honey processing plant shall be established in Nakuru.
According to Dr. Mary, this will be a plus and many widows and orphans will work in the plant for economic empowerment.
