Nakuru female clergy have called for concerted effort in restoration of morals in society.
Led by Pastor Dr. Mary Mugambi who is the founder of Tebenacle Widows’ Home, they regretted that there has been degradation of the moral fabric of the society.
Addressing Press at Kirobon Girls’ High School in Rongai Subcounty of Nakuru County during Annual Widows’ Conference, Pastor Dr Mary attributed the decay in morals in society to failed systems and institutions.
In a strong worded message, Pastor Dr Mary who was reacting to the recent BBC documentary exposé on child trafficking and sexual abuses was categorical that there is a mess in society that needs to be addressed.
She took an issue with politicians who have tendency of taking to the podium and uttering sentiments that seems to encourage immorality.
According to her there is need for integrity in the society.
“Our elected leaders should watch their sentiments and actions while on podium lest they encourage immoral behaviours,” she stated.
Dr Mary also slammed a section of clergy whom she said have lowered their guard by failing to call out evil in society.
She challenged them to speak out against evil with the authority granted to them by the Almighty God.
“As religious leaders, we need to call meetings for our young people and tell them that which is true. We should not allow some cultures from western such as gayism and lesbianism which are degrading morals. My fellow religious leaders let us speak the truth and call out evil and preach the true gospel. I personally cannot allow evil to take over our young people,” she stated.
Dr Mary challenged young people especially males to desist from engaging in immoral behaviours such as gayism.
According to her, there is need for conversation around the same and rebuke such which she said are being funded with huge money.
She challenged religious leaders to take responsibility and ensure a moral fabric of society.
“If we don’t take responsibility, then we shall have a rotten society,” she said.
Sentiments echoed by Anne Mundui who also works under Ministry of Tebenacle Widows’ Home.
She was categorical that moral decay in society is a challenge that calls for concerted effort.
“We need to go back to drawing board and ask ourselves where we went wrong that has led to all these happenings in society,” she said.
Joyce Memu- a parent opines that indeed there is a spirit that has taken over young people leading to decay of their morals.
While responding to Mai Mahiu incident as exposed by BBC, she called on government to intervene and ensure justice, adding that there is need for collective responsibility towards addressing the same.
