Cop loses AK-47 rifle at Kaptembwa

A police officer based at Kaptembwa Police station in Nakuru has lost his firearm in unclear circumstances.

Reports indicate that it was reported by PC Simon Lopeyo, that on February 17, 2025 at around 1800 hrs, he took his AK-47 rifle from the station armory and proceeded on patrol duties with his colleague.

At around 2300 hrs, both officers returned to the station, after which PC Simon Lopeyo excused himself to go to his residence. He claimed that later, he met two strangers at Mosaik area, who introduced themselves as police officers, with one identifying himself as PC Kipkirui.

According to the report, they later accompanied him to Mosaik Bar, and later that evening, at around 2330 hrs, he hosted one of them, who claimed to be PC Kipkirui, at his residence.

However, on the morning of February 18, 2025, at around 0900 hrs, when he woke up, he discovered that his AK-47 rifle, magazine, and the guest were missing.

KPS officers and DCI Nakuru West responded to the scene and conducted a search.

During the search, they recovered a button phone Itel brand at the scene. However, efforts to recover the stolen firearm and ammunition are still ongoing.

The officer was subsequently placed in custody to assist with investigations, and DCI Nakuru West is investigating .
