Nakuru County Government’s plan to address City’s water and sewerage infrastructure

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika is committed to enhancing Nakuru City’s water and sewerage infrastructure.

The county has secured Sh5.6 billion from the German Development Bank (KfW) for the Lake Nakuru Biodiversity Conservation Project, aiming to upgrade the city’s aging sewerage system and increase water supply.

This five-year initiative, in partnership with the Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency, focuses on:

– Water Supply Enhancement: Drilling new boreholes, rehabilitating existing water networks, revitalizing pipelines, optimizing well fields, and constructing new reservoirs.

– Sewerage System Upgrade: Expanding and rehabilitating the sewer network to manage increased wastewater flow, particularly to the Njoro treatment plant.

– Environmental Conservation: Cleaning water sources flowing into Lake Nakuru to protect its biodiversity.

Governor Kihika emphasizes that improving water supply and sanitation is crucial for Nakuru’s growth and residents’ well-being.

Her administration is also exploring additional partnerships to enhance sewer systems in other urban centers like Molo and Gilgil.

These efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to sustainable urban development, aiming to provide reliable water access, improved sanitation, and environmental conservation for Nakuru County.
