Residents of Ol-Rongai 4 village in Menengai West Ward of Nakuru County will soon have a reason to smile following the roll out of water Project at Velmas School.
The phrase Maji ni uhai (Water is Life) is now becoming a reality for residents in this village.
The donor-funded borehole drilling project at the school is celebrated as a transformative milestone, since the area has not had water for decades.
Infact, locals here had used to the fact that there can never be water in the area such that some are still in disbelieve that indeed there shall be water.
The borehole project promises not only to secure vital access to water but also to improve the lives and livelihoods of the entire community.
The project is also a great win for learners at Velmas School, as well as women and girls whom testimonials reveal that they been walking long distances to access clean water.
In addition, watedborne diseases such as diarrhoe and typhoid will also be a thing of past.
In an interview with famousnakuru.co.ke on Thursday March 19, 2026, the School’s Director Ms Anastacia Juma termed the water project a milestone.
She revealed that access to water has been a major challenge in the community, hence the project will go a long way in addressing the same.
The Director thanked the donors: Bright Perth and Summits for Hope for the support they have given to the school and the community.
“This is a milestone not only for Velmas School, but entire Community. The problem of water has been there but this drilling is a testimony that indeed we have a solution. I want to thank our donors for the support,” she said.
According to Mr. Simon Mwaura- one of the supervisors of the drilling works, the borehole drilling target 270 metres.
He was optmistic that the water at the borehole will really play key in serving the community.
It should be noted that Velmas School was started as a daycars just after COVID-19 pandemic around 2021.
The school that sits on 3/4 acre of land that waa donated by the family of Mr. Daniel Juma, has since grown and is now having learners upto Grade 4.
