Speaking during the event, SAVE MAU Forest Initiative CEO David Warren lauded government agencies, security teams, environmental organizations, and local communities for showing up at the Logoman Forest block in East Mau Forest.

He stated that the move goes a long way in supporting President William Samoei Ruto ambitious target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.

The tree-growing exercise was held as part of the national Mazingira Day celebrations, bringing together key stakeholders, including the Kenya Defence Forces, led by Major General Joel M’arimi; Kenya Wildlife Service; Kenya Forest Service; Nakuru county government; and other partners who committed to protecting natural heritage and restoring degraded forest landscapes.

“For Save Mau Forest Initiative, this was more than a tree-planting exercise. It was a renewed call to action to protect our motherland, safeguard our water catchments, recover lost biodiversity, and secure a greener future for generations to come,” stated the CEO of Save Mau Forest Initiative.

Warren reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the national tree-growing agenda.

He assured stakeholders that the Initiative will continue mobilizing its supporters, partners, volunteers, and local communities to restore degraded sections of the Mau Forest through indigenous tree growing, ecosystem restoration, and community-led conservation.

“As an Indigenous community-led organization rooted in the Ogiek people’s longstanding relationship with the Mau Forest, we believe that lasting restoration must go hand in hand with community participation, Indigenous knowledge, and collective responsibility,” he said.

The Save Mau Forest Initiative CEO maintained that the Organization remains focused on restoration of motherland, protect water sources, and help bring back the green identity of the Mau Forest.
