Former Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has advised neticens to respect her Uncle Fred Obachi Machoka.
‘Leave my Uncle alone!’, she wrote on her social handles.
This follows the Saturday October 10, 2026 event at Ulinzi Complex where Uncle Fred was forced to order security to handle situation and ensure Orwoba is out of main stage after she tried to change the 50th anniversary into political affairs with chants of ‘Wantam’.
However, Orwoba has taken the actions of Uncle Fred positively and has urged Kenyans online to respect the decision taken by Machoka.
“He is a legend and he has achieved what very few people on this planet can. Because of this, he is allowed to deal with me whichever way he wants. So please, those abusing him, respect is paramount. Everyone is allowed to have their political stand, even Uncle Fred,” she wrote.
It should be noted that drama was witnessed at Uncle Fred Obachi Machoka’s 50-year journalism celebration after the veteran journalist ordered security to forcefully eject his niece, former Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba.
This after she attempted to turn his event into a political platform trying to initiate “wantam” chants.
Uncle Fred had made it clear from the word go that politics would not be entertained at the celebration.
The occasion was meant to honour five decades of his contribution to journalism, not provide politicians with a microphone to advance their political ambitions.
But when Orwoba took the microphone, she apparently thought it was business as usual. Unfortunately for her, Uncle Fred was having none of it.
The veteran broadcaster directed security to escort her out, making it clear that his rules applied to everyone, family members included.
Reading the riot act, Machoka stood his ground, insisting that he takes no prisoners when it comes to enforcing the rules.
His message was unmistakable, this was his event, his rules, and nobody was going to hijack the occasion for political mileage.
Gloria may have expected a warm family reception, but she apparently learnt the hard way that blood is thicker than water, but rules are rules.
The event was attended by Linda Mwananchi Leader Edwin Sifuna, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, Local and international rhumba artists among them Mbilia Mbel, Kofi Olomide, a San Fa Thomas, Les Wanyika, Maroon Commandos, Them Mushrooms.
