Radio guru Edward Kwach passes on

Standard media Group Journalist and presenter at Spice FM Edward Kwach has passed on.

Two weeks ago, the Media House had requested Kenyans to donate blood in aid of Kwach who was admitted.

According to family, Kwach succumbed to meningitis on Monday night.

Kwach died at the age of 44 while undergoing treatment for meningitis at a Nairobi Hospital.

In the statement released by family spokesperson Michael Okwiri the Kwach family said Mike passed away on the night of April 28, 2025.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother, Carey, that occurred last night 28th April 2025 while receiving treatment for meningitis. Carey touched the lives of many through his voice and presence on the airwaves, becoming a trusted and familiar companion to listeners across the country. He will be remembered not only for his warmth and humour but also for his exceptional taste in music, which brought joy and comfort to so many. His passing is a tremendous loss to all who knew him personally and the many more who connected with him through his work.
We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support during his illness, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who donated blood, visited, and kept him in their thoughts and prayers. We kindly ask that you keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Funeral and memorial arrangements will be communicated in due course.

Following his death, Journalists many of whom worked with him have continued to pour in their tributes.

Classic 105’s Maina Kageni recalled how he once worked with Kwach.

“One of the best things to ever happen to me was meeting Edward Carey Francis Kwach…. his energy and go getter attitude certainly rubbed off on us….. then we started a radio show together on Kiss 100 alongside Arjun Vidyarthi then Cess Mutungi…. and I realised that I was working with a broadcast genius….,” stated Maina.

According to Maina, Edward Kwach was the greatest radio personality Kenya has ever produced.

“….. I can only celebrate you and your legacy….. good well…. Eric Ndavi is waiting for you…. and we must, inevitably, join you…. till then, adios… we love you….,” he said.

Carol Radul wrote, “Heartbreaking. A colleague and a friend. Rest in peace Edward Kwach .”

Joe Gidi of Radio Jambo wrote, “My friend Edward Kwach I can’t believe you are gone, Rest in Paradise brother. Pole to The KWACH FAMILY cc Sire Edgar Kwach Shaka Kwach .”
