PWDs, activists stage protests in Nakuru over disappearance of Baby Mercy’s body at Nakuru Level 5 Mortuary

Members of Nakuru Civil society and Persons Living With Disability(PWDs) on Monday February 17, 2025 joined in peaceful protests demanding justice for a family whose 7-months old died and body mysteriously went missing at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital Mortuary.

The family from Kiratina, Menengai East Ward of Nakuru East Sub county is crying for justice over the case.

Mr Daniel Kipchirchir and Ms Sharon Saidy are said to have had their 7 months old baby Mercy Chepng’eno admitted at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital but unfortunately passed on and the body was taken to Mortuary at the facility.

Documents seen by famous Nakuru.co.ke indicate that indeed the body was received at the Facility’s mortuary.
However, on coming to the facility on February 6 to receive their body, they were told that the body is no where to be traced.

Activists and PWDs drawn from Nakuru and Nairobi are now demanding justice for the family.

They are demanding that the body of Baby Mercy be availed by the facility and those who were on duty at the Mortuary on the date that the body disappeared be suspended from work.
Armed with placards with various messages over the matter, they held peaceful demonstrations within Nakuru CBD from Railways to County Headquarters where they handed a petition to the County Secretary Dr. Samuel Mwaura.

Addressing the lot outside County Headquarters, Dr. Mwaura who was flanked by County CECM for health Roslyne Mungai and Francis Njoroge from the Political office of Governor, assured the family that the County Government is working with the investigating agency to ensure justice for the family.

“We want to assure the family that we are working to ensure justice is served. The case is with DCI and we are following up on the same. This is a serious matter that we cannot ignore,” stated Mwaura.
Mwaura called for patience as the matter is being addressed.
