PS Bitok: Government to increase student Capitation to schools in the next Financial Year

Government will increase capitation for schools in the next Financial year.

Principal Secretary for Basic Education Amb. Prof. Julius Bitok has revealed the same.

He was speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday May 5, 2026 during a stakeholders’ consultative forum to address the state of education in Nakuru County and the larger national progress of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.

The PS assured the public that the National Treasury and the Ministry of Education are working in lockstep to ensure the timely and full release of capitation funds to all public schools.

To ensure these funds are utilized effectively, the PS stated that the Ministry is also strengthening the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) to ensure every shilling follows a legitimate learner.

The forum is part of the Ministry’s nationwide Elimu Mashinani initiative, brought together educators, parents, and local leaders.

During the event, PS Bitok reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Free Primary and Secondary Education policies.

He assured the public that the National Treasury and the Ministry of Education are working to ensure the timely and full release of capitation funds to all public schools.

Nakuru Deputy Governor David Kones who graced the event, emphasized the role that the Nakuru County has played in anchoring the national education framework.

The event was also graced by National Government representatives led by the County commissioner Loyford Kibaara, Members of the National Assembly, MCAs among other guests.
