Peace and security messages took centre stage at International Youth Day event 2026 held in Nakuru on Wednesday August 12, 2026.
The event organized by MIDRIFT HURINET was to commemorate this year’s International Youth Day.
The youth participated in a procession within Nakuru CBD before congregating at Christ The King Hall for a conversation and linkages to the various economic opportunities.
Speaking during the event that brought together youth from different contexts, Mr. Calvin Muga reiterated the key role that youth can play in enhancing peace and security.
While pointing out that the country is headed to the general elections 2027, Muga challenged young people to embrace and be peace ambassadors.
“The young people of this country should understand that they have the noble task to ensure peace before, during and after the election 2027. On this day the event is to help champion the meaningful role young people play in advancing peace, security, and social cohesion, and to link them with existing socio-economic and skills development opportunities,” he stated.
He at the same time urged youth in Nakuru County to tap into the numerous opportunities that come their way.
This, he said will go a long way in empowering them in society.
According to Muga, youth have a voice that should be heard to ensure good governance, accountability and representation.
He added that, moving forward the young people will engage in dialogues, counter misinformation and hate speech online, and push for accountable leadership ahead of 2027.
The event further created a platform for dialogue between youth, county leadership, security agencies, and other key stakeholders, fostering collaborative approaches to addressing the root causes of youth-related conflict and marginalization.
Ms Linda Kageha from Kenya Chamber of Commerce Nakuru Chapter and a member of Nakuru County Enterprise Fund, challenged youth in Nakuru to tap into many opportunities availed by government towards their economic growth.
