As a way to boost and empower groups, Nakuru County government has continued to distribute poultry chicks to various registered groups across the county.
The recent beneficiaries are over 35 Groups in Rhonda Ward, Nakuru West Subcounty.
The Governor Susan Kihika’s Chicks distribution Program aims to empower groups economically.
The exercise involves the distribution of fully vaccinated, one-month-old improved kienyeji chicks—comprising Kroiler and Sasso breeds—along with bags of 50kg chick mash feed.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote job creation, boost household income, enhance food security, and encourage small-scale poultry farming, particularly in limited spaces.
Beneficiaries are also trained on essential poultry management practices, including vaccination schedules, drug storage, feeding programs, sanitation procedures, lighting requirements, disease control, and other maintenance protocols.
The distribution exercise in Rhonda Ward was led by County Chief Officer for Lands and Physical Planning, Stella Mwaura, accompanied by Martin Gichinga, the Nakuru County Cooperative Revolving Development Fund (CRDF) Fund Administrator and area MCA Macharia Gachiri.
Speaking during the event, Ms Mwaura emphasised that Governor Susan Kihika remains committed to service delivery, and this initiative is part of her ongoing efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods and empower grassroots communities economically.
On his part, Mr. Gichinga urged local groups to formalise their registration to qualify for future empowerment opportunities, including access to the Wezesha Biashara Fund initiative.
Sentiments echoed by area MCA Macharia, who pledged to organise a free follow-up training session next week, along with a second phase of chick distribution for groups that missed the initial round.
The MCA also announced that groups maintaining zero mortality rates and high hygiene standards would receive extra chicks and feed as an incentive.
