Nakuru’s Kenyatta Avenue might just have CCTV cameras installed soon.
This follows amotion by Nominated Member of County Assembly of Nakuru Hassan Duale.
The youthful MCA on Wednesday November 4 during house proceedings, moved a motion on the same.
Through the motion, MCA Duale urges the County Executive to install CCTV cameras along the Free Area – State House 58 – Kenyatta Avenue stretch up to Soilo Interchange.
Among the key proposals include the installation of CCTV cameras at major junctions, pedestrian crossings, public transport stages and identified crime hotspots.
That there be a central monitoring centre linked to the National Police Service command centre and the city’s smart surveillance infrastructure.
The motion further proposes that funds to be set aside in the next financial year’s budget.
Safeguards to ensure surveillance data is collected, stored and used in line with privacy and data protection laws.
MCA Duale argues that the Free Area to Soilo Interchange stretch, one of Nakuru City’s busiest corridors, has become a hotspot for road safety concerns, crime and vandalism of public property.
He says CCTV will help police investigations, ease traffic management and speed up emergency response.
