Njoro residents in shock as hyenas attack and kill 14 year old boy in Gichobo Location

Addressing press at Sinendet area Peris Mwangi(mother to Mwangi) said the matter  was reported at Naishi Police station in Njoro and an OB obtained.

Search commenced allover even Nakuru, Ponda sewage and Naishi but in vain until on Saturday July 25, 2025 when one villager who was harvesting beans in a nearby Shamba spotted a jacket and shorts that the late Mwangi was wearing when he disappeared and took them to the mother who could bot hold her emotions.

“I don’t have much to say. Let the government and media help me find justice in this incident that I cannot even comprehend now,” the emotional mother stated.

The devastating incident has left villagers believe that Mwangi was attacked by Hyenas as only a few remains of intestines were found at the scene that was also combed by DCI officers from Njoro.

They are now calling on leaders and security team to help address the menace of hyenas lest more children in the area are attacked and killed as they head to and back from school.

Paul Macharia Mwangi- a resident noted that the hyenas have a tendency of leaving Naishi Game Park and invading residential places.

Months ago, he revealed that he lost his goats and sheep to Hyenas.

He stated that the whole area of Lare Ward is now living in fear due to the animal menace from Naishi Game Park.

Even as the locals were addressing media, another hyena showed up in the neighborhood chasing children who had to run for their lives.

Zipporah Waithera who witnessed the shocking said they are now living in fear.

“I have witnessed the hyena chase my neighbor’s child and I’m shocked even as we are still coming to terms with the latest news,” she stated.

Sentiments echoed by Beatrice Wanjau- mother to the child who was on Sunday morning chased by hyena.

She called on government to remember the children and women in the area.

“If something is not done, then we shall continue to live in fear. Let the government and our leaders come to our aid,” she said.

Area Chief Lewis Mwangi while confirming the latest incident, states that it was so unfortunate that Mwangi’s life has been cut short by Hyenas.

He was however quick to laud the Kenya Wildlife Service for responding whenever there are calls by villagers.

The local administrator called for need to ensure more patrols by KWS officers in the area.

“We have several cases reported in this area and we hope the KWS will enhance patrols and tame the hyenas in the game park that is 3kms away from this place. On the latest incident where a child has just been chased by hyena, I have talked to KWS and they are on their way to trace the animal,” he stated.
