Nakuru Woman Rep welcomes formation of multi sectorial Taskforce towards addressing femicides

Nakuru Woman Rep Liza Chelule has welcomed the formation of multi sectorial Taskforce towards addressing femicides.
Chelule says this will help restore sanity in the society and ensure women and girls are protected.
She was speaking in Nakuru on Thursday December 19, 2024 during issuance of NGAAF bursary checques worth Ksh 10million to students of various institutions from the 11 Sub counties of Nakuru.
Chelule while noting that the femicides and various forms of Gender Based Violence cases have been on the rise even in Nakuru, was quick to laud President William Ruto’s administration for constituting the multi sectorial Taskforce to address the same.
She urged Kenyans to give the Taskforce time to lay down measures that will help find amicable solution and end the femicides.
According to Chelule, ending femicides should not not be left to the local administration alone or even the County Commissioners, but rather it is a collective responsibility.
“We are grateful that the government has come up with the Taskforce to look into the issues of femicides that have been in the rise. This matter is not only for the County Commissioners and security team, but we all need to team up and end the femicides and other forms of GBV,” stated Chelule.
To the beneficiaries of the NGAAF bursary checques, Chelule appealed to them to ensure they work hard in their studies.
She challenged needy students not to focus on whatever the lir families are going through, but work hard for a brighter future.
“My appeal to you is to work hard and you will rejoice in future. Never focus in the challenges facing your family now,” she stated.
The Woman Rep also used the moment to urge parents to take up their parenting responsibility and ensure the Technology does not negatively affect their children.
According to Chelule, with the smart phones, students have found themselves victims of scam and fake relationships that end up in scams.
“Technology is good but students should keep off smart phones scams on social media with fake relationships and focus on their studies. Education can help transform families and the society at large. Parents have a role to ensure well bringing of their children through talk and guidance,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chelule called on leaders in Nakuru to continue ensuring cohesiveness.
She added that as Nakuru leaders, they will continue to preach peace and ensure cohesive Nakuru County and nation at large.
“I’m one of the people who has always championed for cohesion in Nakuru and will not tire in doing so. Divisive politics have no room in Nakuru and should not divide us on any basis,” stated Chelule.
The Woman Rep reiterated that she is still in the race for 2027 adding that when the campaign time comes, then she will hit the road.
During the event, Chelule also distributed sanitary pads to girls.
