Nakuru residents, Journalists mark Valentine’s Day by Donating Blood

Hundreds of Nakuru Residents and Journalists on Friday 14, 2025 marked Valentine’s Day by Donating Blood.

While many marked Valentine’s Day with romantic gestures, Nakuru City residents chose a different path, one of selflessness and humanity.

In a unique show of love, the residents came together to donate blood, recognizing the dire need for blood donations in Kenya, where thousands of lives are lost due to shortages in hospitals.

The blood donation drive, held at Maasai Market next to Standard Chartered Bank within CBD, was spearheaded by Ministry of Health, Kenya Blood Transfusion and Transplant Service, Damu Kenya, Kenya Redcross and County Government of Nakuru among other charity group organizations.

The event aimed to support patients at Nakuru Teaching Referral Hospital, which, like many other medical facilities in the country, frequently struggles with inadequate blood supplies.

Speaking after donating blood, Simon Ole Nasieku from Hawkers and street vendors association in Nakuru called on Kenyans to embrace such spirit of donating blood.

According to him, such initiatives will go a long way in saving lives.

“Valentine’s Day is a day to show love. I decided to donate blood as a way of showing love to those in dire need,” stated Simon Ole Nasieku.

Nakuru Journalists under their umbrella Nakuru Journalists Association also joined the residents and other well wishers in donating blood.

Chairman Nakuru Journalists Association Mr. Joseph Openda noted that blood donation is key in saving lives.

Openda pointed out as journalists, they have been covering stories on accidents and blood shortage issue and that they felt it nice to join in the blood donation activity.

“We always cover stories on shortage of blood in our facilities, and today being a Valentine’s Day, we thought it wise to join in the blood donation drive,” stated Openda.
