Nakuru Creatives reap big from 1st Edition of The Fisherman’s Art Workshop and Civic Engagement

Nakuru Creatives on Friday September 18, 2026 were treated to the 1st Edition of  The Fisherman’s Art Workshop and Civic Engagement.

The Workshop organized through collaboration of Uwazi Festival by Tribeless Youth Organization, the Baraza Media Lab Nakuru and The Fisherman’s Experience Team, brought together Content creators, Fashion designers, Musicians, Creatives, Film makers and artists with aim of Transforming creative Industry vision into economic hub.

During the event, the Nakuru Creatives had time to be taken through various topics among them digitization, Content creation and monetization by various guest speakers and gurus in the creative Industry.

Various panelists also engaged the Nakuru Creatives during Question and Answer session.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Njoroge Samuel alias Priest the Poet from Baraza Media Lab Nakuru revealed that Baraza Media Lab has Civic Canvas as one of the programs.

He noted  that this is a platform for civic engagement on matters rights and governance.

“As Baraza Media Lab Nakuru, we have collaborated with the Fisherman’s Experience and Tribeless Youth to ensure civic engagement for creatives. The aim is also to help the Creatives understand how they can monetize their content,” he stated.

On her part the Executive Director Tribeless Youth Organization Ms Shiko Kihika challenged Nakuru Creatives to ensure they maximize on the various platforms available.

orical that, “At the centre of technology and art, we have the centre to defeat status quo.”

She added that the Workshop is among the buildup activities to the Uwazi Festival taking place at Nakuru Sports Club on Saturday September 19 from 8am to 6pm.

From 9pm dawn, there shall be the concert where various national and local creatives shall be performing.

According to her, the Workshop and the Uwazi Festival goes a long way in empowering the Nakuru Creatives towards the next level.

“We have had mentorship for the creative Industry in Nakuru for the last 3 years and we have seen a lot of improvement in the Industry,” she said.

Re-known Creative Costa Ojwang’ alias The Fisherman who has experience in matters Music and poetry art for the last 15 years), stated that this is the first of its kind in Nakuru.

He noted that with the current trend on matters social media, creatives need to think out of the box without necessarily confining themselves to the creative norms.

In music industry, Costa Ojwang’ called for the need for creatives to build themselves either using team, or behind someone who has a team.

On matters AI, he urged creatives to use it to better their work as a creatives in the industry.

“Away from art, life has to go on despite the challenges that come up. On start, the money is not enough and therefore they need to have alternative job that can help them,” he said.

Being his first time in Nakuru, Costa Ojwang’ expressed optimism that the Uwazi Festival and Concert will be colourful.

He maintained that unity of creatives is key towards the right path.

Creatives who attended the workshop lauded the organizers for such an opportunity.

Led by Colins Obure who is a puppetry creative, stated that such workshops go a long way in empowering them and opening their eyes.

Obure who started creatives in 2024 maintained that interaction with gurus such as Costa Ojwang’, Okello Max among others is a plus as it motivates them.

He challenged the upcoming creatives not to shy away, but come out and stand out with confidence.
