Nakuru County Deaf Football Team shines at Champions in Machakos County

Nakuru County Deaf Men’s Football Team finished as the runners-up in the finals of the 2024 National Deaf Football Selection Championship held at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County.

John Mwangi opened the scoring for Nakuru County, giving his team the lead against the Garissa County Deaf Team.

However, Ahmed Nassir equalized for Garissa, leading to a 1-1 draw at the end of regular time.

The match was decided by a penalty shootout, where Garissa emerged victorious with a 4-3 win, claiming the championship title.

In the women’s category, Nakuru County’s Deaf Football Team secured third place with six points.

Kakamega County Deaf Team took first place with ten points, while Kajiado County Deaf Team finished second with eight points.

Hassan Hussein praised Governor Susan Kihika’s administration for its unwavering support, which allowed the Nakuru County Deaf Football teams to focus fully on the competition.

Josephine Atieno, the County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services, expressed her gratitude to both teams for their outstanding performances.

She emphasized that they have made Nakuru County proud by competing against teams from 47 counties.

Atieno also reaffirmed her commitment to fulfilling the Governor’s manifesto by nurturing, promoting and supporting raw talent across the county, and providing opportunities for exposure on the national stage.
