MP Arama warns school heads against sending students home over fee balances, unauthorized charges

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama has issued a stern warning to school heads who send learners home for school fees balance and other unauthorized levies.
Speaking in his constituency after witnessing some cases of parents stranded at home with their children after they were chased away from schools, the MP said this is uncalled for.

He added that the laws on Education sector are very clear and school heads should familiarize themselves rather than taking actions that are not allowed.

According to Arama, no school head is allowed to send learners home as government policy has it that learners should be in school.
He added that already Kenya Kwanza government has disbursed capitation money to secondary schools.
In addition, NG-CDF kitty has also boosted the same.
“Where does the law permit you as a teacher to send learners at home?,” he questioned.
The Lawmaker who has matters education at heart has vowed to follow up with Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu over the same adding that such school heads who send students home for school fees and other unauthorized charges may face prosecution for violating the rights of the child.
He said most students spend a lot of time away over unpaid fees, thus wasting the time they should be studying and end up paying for services they did not get.
