Nakuru Town West MP Samwel Arama has revealed that he will be seeking official statement on the ownership of a parcel of Land of Land meant for Jua Kali Sector members.
The MP said the 21-acre parcel is has had issues with the ownership, as a cooperative and the officials of the Jua Kali Sector have had conflicts on the ownership.
However, Arama says he will seek statement from the Departmental Committee on lands in Parliament.
According to the Lawmaker, the statement seeks to establish the conflict around the ownership of the land and ensure the Jua Kali Sector members get their rightful share of ownership.
Speaking after visiting the said parcel of land alongside members of the Jua Kali Sector, Arama was surprised that the parcel of land has maize planted by some individuals who are yet to be known.
“We are here and just to stand with the Jua Kali Sector members who are seeking justice for their parcel of land. I will be seeking a statement on the same in Parliament,” he stated.
However, famousnakuru.co.ke has established that the maize were planted by some Prison officers from Nakuru GK Prison in Milimani.
The same was confirmed by a phonecall by MP Arama to the Officer in charge of Nakuru Prisons who admitted that indeed some officers had planted the maize but it has nothing concerned with ownership controversies.
The Lawmaker was accompanied by Francis Njoroge from Governor Susan Kihika’s Political Affairs Office, area MCA Bernard Gatuso, and Jua Kali Sector members, noted that it was wrong for individuals to grab land meant to assist community.
He revealed that through collaboration with Governor Susan Kihika, they will seek Ministry of Lands and and surveyors to visit the said parcel of land adjacent to Gioto dumping site.
According to Arama, there is need for the real boundary to be known so that the land can be fenced off.
“We are closely working with Governor Kihika and President. Infact in the next two weeks, we want to see this land fenced off after surveyors visit,” he stated.
The Legislator who has been in the frontline in assisting solve problems facing constituents, said the said parcel of land is meant to ensure good working environment for Jua Kali Sector members who run operate garages on various streets in Nakuru West and Nakuru as a whole.
Njoroge form Governor Kihika’s office assured the members of the sector that the the Governor is very ready to ensure amicable solution in the matter.
He added that soon, the Governor will be meeting the officials over the matter.
“Our Governor is with you in all this matter and through MP Arama we shall work towards a solution so that members can own what is theirs,” stated Njoroge.
Sentiments echoed by Jua Kali Sector Chairman Peter Njoroge who thanked the MP and Governor Kihika for intervening.
He noted that the move will ashame individuals who wanted to grab the parcel of land.
History has it that the pioneer Jua Kali Sector members were given the parcel of land in 1985 by late retired President Daniel Moi, But the land has had conflicts over ownership of the parcel of land with Kibingor Self Help group.
However the over 600 members who accessed the land on Monday June 23, 2025, are optimistic that with intervention of Governor Kihika and MP Arama, they will reclaim back ownership of the land.
