Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI) is a government technical training institution in Nakuru along Solai Road.
It was established in 1965 with support from the Japanese government and operates under the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry.
The institute trains school leavers, industrial workers, and employees of small and medium-sized enterprises in practical industrial and entrepreneurship skills.
Sitting on over 40 acres piece of land, the institution continues to boast of the contribution it has continued to make to Kenya’s industrialization agenda.
This is enabled through the training model that focuses on industrial skills in various sectors among them artisans, technicians and middle-level managers.
Currently, the institution has a total 1242 trainees undertaking their training in various courses offered.
KITI has continued to embrace partnership component.
Key partners include Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), Numerical Machine Complex(NMC), National Industrial Training Authority as well as Kenya National Examination Council(KNEC).
Speaking at the Institution during a media engagement workshop, Director Engineer Simiyu Wabwire revealed that with evolving technology, the Institution has ensured that Information and Communication Technology(ICT) component is offered across all the departments.
This, he says will go a long way in supporting digital superhighway.
He also stated that the Institution is partnering with Bedi Investment Company on textile, where KITI will offer 800 trainers to the upcoming Textile Company at KITI estate.
Engineer Simiyu reiterated the importance of efficiency through actual exposure to industrial environment set-up for trainees.
“We need to borrow so much from Germany on matters Industrial Training. Exposure to industry will help address some of the gaps and that is why here at KITI we are focusing on the same. We are working on a program to expose our trainers to industry,” he said.

Yes, the Director confirms this as he says it goes a long way in supporting industrial development.
On the new Refinery coming up in Lamu County, Engineer Simiyu said KITI’s partnership with KEBS on certification in welding department will contribute fully to the project.
