Gilgil-based Human Rights defender Moses Gitonga has lauded Olkalou residents for safeguarding electoral exercise.
Gitonga in a press release on Saturday July 18, 2026, was categorical that what happened in Olkalou was vote protection.
Gitonga who is a Human Right Defender and an adherent constitutional consumer, stated that
Citizens have their constitutional right to protect themselves and their properties if the government has failed to do so.
He added that if a police officer fails to apprehend a criminal, any available citizen should go ahead and make civil arrest, handing over the suspect to the nearest police officer or station.
“Hooded person or police officer has an ulterior motive or intent to commit a crime. Citizens of Olkalou were safe guarding, policing and protecting a national electoral exercise. They did so without disrespecting anyone,” he stated.
Gitonga who once served as a military officer maintained that the Anti-Goon citizenry protection move is alive and growing.
According to him, this shall be replicated in all future elections across the country.
