Kihika: We’re up to the task as G7

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has assured the nation that as women elected Governors, they are up the task of development and driving devolution agenda.

The Governor who was elected on UDA party ticket as the third Governor Nakuru County, says Women in leadership have great potential of shaping the society, counties and Nation as a whole.

She spoke on Thursday morning during the launch of the G7 strategy of the Women Governors’ caucus.

The event was presided over by President William Ruto.

The G7 Strategy seeks to increase the number of women in gubernatorial positions in the next elections from the current seven to 16.

“As champion of the strategy, I applaud the mission of enhancing political influence of women at levels, as we provide transformative and visionary leadership in our counties. As women leaders we are better placed because we take care of issues of water, markets, education and health that affect women mostly at the grassroots,” stated Kihika.

Kihika also used the opportunity to challenge the G7 leaders to remain focused in driving the agenda of the strategy.

She noted that as women leaders, they have the key to deliver on devolution.

“It’s now incumbent on us as G7 leaders to deliver of the promise of devolution so that we don’t knock the ladder that propelled us here down and make it to 24 in 2027. We are up to the task of delivering on development numbers and the promise of devolution,” she said.

In 2022 August polls, 7 Governors were elected.

They include Anne Waiguru(Kirinyaga), Susan Kihika(Nakuru), Gladys Wanga(Homabay), Wavinya Ndeti(Machakos), Kawira Mwangaza(Meru), Fatuma Achani(Kwale), and Cicily Mbarire(Embu).
