Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika on Tuesday August 12, 2025 made a request to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for additional Administrative Units.
Kihika noted that this will go a long way in addressing challenges of insecurity in various parts of Nakuru county.
The Governor urged the Interior CS to increase the number of administrative divisions for enhanced security, establish a government chemist in Nakuru, and address persistent land disputes.
Kihika was speaking when she joined the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, for a consultative meeting and a subsequent town hall session with National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) and security personnel at the Police Dog Section Unit, as part of the Ministry’s Jukwaa la Usalama County Tours.
Governor Kihika noted that NGAOs and security teams continue to face significant professional and logistical challenges in their daily operations, some of which are closely linked to specific types of crimes reported in certain estates within Nakuru City and its suburbs.
She called for stronger measures to combat drug abuse, observing that access to narcotics remained alarmingly easy, even in designated safe spaces.
Kihika also raised concern over a group of gamblers operating around the Kanu House area who are extorting residents.
She further requested more Kazi Mtaani youth to strengthen community support and engagement.
The Governor welcomed CS Murkomen’s commitment to addressing both professional and logistical challenges affecting security operations and reaffirmed Nakuru County’s commitment to work closely with the National Government to dismantle criminal gangs, curb drug and illicit alcohol abuse, resolve land disputes, improve surveillance, and strengthen law enforcement.
The event was also graced by MPs Samwel Arama (Nakuru Town West), Irene Njoki (Bahati), Alfred Mutai (Kuresoi North), Joseph Tonui (Kuresoi South), Martha Wangari (Gilgil), Charity Kathambi (Njoro), Paul Chebor (Rongai), and Liza Chelule (Women Representative).
Also present were Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara, regional and county security teams, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), and NGAO officers.
