Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika on Saturday unveiled her mid-term development report for Rongai Sub county.
The Governor unveiled the report during a consultative meeting with opinion leaders and residents from Rongai Sub-county.
Kihika stated that she remains committed towards transforming the area’s socio-economic status.
In Rongai, Kihika highlighted the progress of her transformative agenda, which includes key projects in water, agriculture, health, infrastructure, trade, and youth empowerment.
In education, her administration has disbursed KSh42.07 million in bursaries to 8,579 students in Rongai Sub-County.
Additionally, 14 students are currently on full scholarships, while 5,662 learners in ECDEs are benefiting from Uji Program.
“We have constructed and equipped 12 ECDE classrooms, including Kamaech, Kapkaturu, Kipsyenan, Ngata, Ngessumin, and Umoja,” she stated.
To promote vocational training, Kihika’s administration has constructed Mmwata and Mangu Polytechnics and continues to provide KSh30,000 in capitation to all learners in VTCs such as Ruiyobei, Ol Rongai, and Ogilgei.
In health, Governor Kihika’s administration is expanding access to medical services through the construction of Rongai Level 4 Hospital in Salgaa, set to be completed and operational by 2027.
“We have built Ngondu Dispensary and are currently renovating the Losibi Dispensary. At Kapsetek Dispensary, we are constructing a maternity ward, and including fencing and other works at Majani Mingi Dispensary. We have ensured a continuous supply of essential medicines across all our health facilities,” she stated.
In trade, through the Sh100 million County Enterprise Fund and the County Cooperative Revolving Development Fund, the County Government has issued loans amounting to KSh150,000 to two women’s groups.
Four additional groups will soon receive loans of KSh200,000 each.
“We have also established a KSh30 million Boda Boda Fund for operators. Furthermore, the construction of ultra-modern markets in conjunction with the National Government is ongoing in Rongai and Nyamamithi,” she said.
In water provision, Kihika’s administration has significantly increased access to clean and safe drinking water in Rongai Sub-County—from 17.85 percent to 59.49 percent—through drilling new boreholes, laying pipes, solarizing water systems, and supplying water pumps.
Kihika’e flagship initiative, the Umoja Water Project, includes an equipped borehole, water kiosks, and 20.9 kms of piping.
Other boreholes have been drilled in Kasururei, Banita, Kiametha, Ngecha, and Ogilgei.
In agriculture, the County Government had vaccinated 128,271 animals, inseminated 6,327 cows, and distributed 16 incubators.
Additionally, the County Government has provided a milk cooler and a generator to Burgei Cooperative Society, and distributed 15,100 avocado seedlings to 2,352 farmers.
“We restocked Lake Solai with 37,700 fingerlings and constructed six cattle dips to support livestock farming,” she said.
In infrastructure, the county graded 128.4 kms of roads, graveled 24.6 kms constructed three bridges, and installed 49 streetlights.
Notable roads completed include the Ol Rongai–Rigogo–Cuba Road, Moricho–Milimani Road, and Kiplombe–Kagwa Road.
To promote sports and empower youth, Kihika’s administration has distributed empowerment and sports equipment worth KSh96 million.
“We are supporting the creative economy through empowerment centers, and last year, we invested KSh27.5 million in sports development across the wards. We have also constructed and rehabilitated social halls in Rongai Sub-County. Later this month, we will launch the Governor’s Cup, a countywide tournament featuring multiple sporting disciplines,” stated Kihika.
At the national level, under the leadership of President William Ruto, the government is constructing a 1,160-bed hostel at the Rift Valley National Polytechnic.
Additionally, the upcoming dualization of the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway is expected to significantly boost the county’s economy and regional connectivity.
