Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has revealed why there has been delays in the establishment of County Audit Committee.
Speaking on Wednesday September 3, 2025 when she appeared before Senate Public Accounts Committee to answer to queries raised by Office of Auditor General, Kihika attributed the same to the fact that the County Public Service Board tenure had expired.
However, the county advertised the positions of the County Public Service Board membership in July with those interested having required to submit their applications to the office of the County Secretary and Head of County Public Service.
Kihika added that the process went on well and the names were submitted to the County Assembly.
Unfortunately, the County Assembly was on recess.
She was however quick to point out that the County Assembly will have a special sitting soon to ensure the County Public Service Board is in place
“We are very much anticipating that once the County Assembly holds a special sitting and the Public Service Board is reconstituted, then we shall embark on the establishment of the Audit Committee,” she told Senate PAC.
Governor Kihika however pointed out that the County Government has internal auditor.
During the session, Kihika also revealed that one of the professionals in matters Finance at the County Government had retired, but the recruitment process is on.
The Senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC) reiterated the need for responsible and accountable leadership in the county governance in order to ensure proper management of public funds directed towards implementation of development projects.
He advised that the Audit Committee should have professional to ensure proper funds management.
Governor Kihika assured PAC that the issues raised by the committee will be addressed.
