Sports docket in Nakuru county has received a major boost, following the signing into law the Nakuru County Sports Management Bill 2023 by Governor Susan Kihika.
This will guide development and promotion of sports, sports infrastructure and sporting events in the County.
The new law establishes the Nakuru County Sports Management Committee that will develop and review sports policies; Directorate of Sports Management and Coordination in charge of day to day operations and management of programs; Ward Sports Committee; and Nakuru County Sports Fund.
“The new law aligns the Sports agenda with the County priorities as contained in the CIDP 2023-27 and my manifesto,” she said.
With the passage and signing the bill into law, Governor Kihika expressed her confidence that it will go a long way in ensuring a fresh impetus to sports, sports infrastructure and sporting events in line with country’s distinguished history as a breeding ground for leading sports men and women.
She used the moment to appreciate the role of MCAs who were represented by the Leader of Majority Alex Langat, Ali Hassan Abdi who sponsored the Bill and Bor Alex Kipyeki, the Sports Committee chairperson at the County Assembly.
