Barut MCA Bernard Kirui has lauded the county government of Nakuru under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika for initiating Mlima Ugali Water Project.
The MCA says the project is key as it will go a long way in addressing challenges of water services in the area.
According to him, there has been persistent water challenge in the area, but with the coming of the project then the issues will be of the past.
“This project is timely. It will enhance hygiene, reduce waterborne diseases, and support small-scale businesses, especially around Barut Market,” he stated.
Over 1,200 residents of Mlima Ugali in Barut Ward, Nakuru County, are set to benefit from clean and safe drinking water after this newly completed Barut (Mlima Ugali) Water Project, which is currently in its handover phase.
The project has been handed over to NAWASSCO for management and comprises borehole solarization, fencing, 1.4km of pipeline laying, installation of a water kiosk, and a water tank at the local school.
Later, the team, led by Chief Officer for Environment Kennedy Mungai, visited Kaptembwa Comprehensive School and Eileen Ngochoch Comprehensive School in Nakuru Town West to inspect the construction of energy-efficient kitchens.
This initiative by the County Government aims to strengthen school feeding programs.
The project includes the installation of improved cookstoves, chimney hoods, exhaust pipes, and the distribution of one ton of fire briquettes to 12 schools in Nakuru Town West.
Additional cookstoves will also be installed at Alms House, Kimathi, and Lakeview Primary in Nakuru East.
The project promotes good hygiene practices and creates employment opportunities for non-teaching staff.
These schools include including Kaptembwa Primary, Kibowen Komen Primary, Nakuru West Primary, Muslim Primary, Koinange, Mama Ngina Primary, Uhuru Primary, Mlimani Primary, Nakuru Hills Special School, and Moi Primary.
The event was attended by the Ag. Director of Environment Grace Karanja, CCU members Mumbi Kinyanjui and Samuel Kimani, the Ward Administrator, NAWASSCO representatives, school administrators, ward climate change committee members, and community members.
