Afraha Stadium Progress Inspection by Sports CS Ababu Namwamba

Ababu Namwamba visiting Afraha Stadium

Afraha Stadium will get an opportunity to host many local, regional and international sporting activities once complete. The Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba made the promise while he visited the historic sporting grounds early Friday morning to assess the ongoing work. He was accompanied by Deputy Governor David Kones, Sports CEC Josephine Atieno, Lands CEC John Kihagi, City Manager Gitau Thabanja, and other Nakuru County Sports Officials.

“We are happy with the progress so far and I really must congratulate H.E Governor Susan Kihika for her relentless push to have the stadium complete,” said the CS.

Governor Susan Kihika’s visionary leadership has revitalized the stadium project. When she took over, work at the stadium was nearly stalled, but it has now gained momentum. The CS congratulated her for the ambitious project that aims to transform Afraha Stadium into a modern sports facility.

The CS further revealed that the National Government has set specific irreducible requirements for Afraha Stadium to meet international standards. These include provisions for proper changing rooms, standard stands and a VIP pavilion, a tartan track, a high-quality pitch, parking facilities, adequate security measures, crowd control, and evacuation mechanisms. CS Ababu Namwamba emphasized the importance of adhering to these standards to enhance the stadium’s functionality and safety.

Afraha Stadium, a neglected historic sporting ground, is poised to become a hub for sporting activities beyond Nairobi. The CS expressed his commitment to promoting sports outside the capital and highlighted Afraha Stadium as a key venue for achieving this goal.

Once complete, Afraha Stadium promises to host a wide range of sporting events, benefiting both athletes and the local community. The CS pledged to support and promote various sports activities at Afraha once all construction work is finished.

During the inspection, the CS provided valuable advice and encouragement to the Nakuru County officials. He emphasized the need for teamwork, quality workmanship, and timely completion of the project.

This project reflects Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure in Nakuru County. With Afraha Stadium on track to meet international standards, sports enthusiasts can look forward to exciting events and memorable moments in this historic venue.
