Youth urged to take lead in matters peace

Young people in Nakuru have been urged to take lead in peace initiatives.

The call was made during inception meeting under the Peace, Accountability and Community Empowerment Project by Midrift Hurinet.

The project targets Nakuru East and Nakuru Town West Sub Counties.

Midrift Hurinet Executive Director Joseph Omondi stated that Youth besides being beneficiaries of the project, they are also the driving force.

He called for the need for collaboration among stakeholders towards success of the project.

“Our youth are not just beneficiaries of this project but also its driving force. Their energy, creativity, and passion are invaluable assets in our collective journey towards peace and security. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities, voices into action, and dreams into reality. Join hands, commit to change, and let’s create a legacy of peace that echoes for generations to come,” stated Mr Omondi.

During the forum, an introduction and concept was made to stakeholders with calls for stakeholders ownership.

Key individuals who play crucial roles in the project’s success were present: MIDRIFT HURINET Executive Director Joseph Omondi, the Nakuru Town East Deputy County Commissioner Were Simiyu, and the Nakuru County CECM in charge of Youth, Sports, Gender, and Inclusivity Josephine Achieng.

Also present were Youth Champions in Nakuru Town East and Nakuru Town West, an Assistant County Commissioner from Nakuru Town East, a representative from the National Police Service County Commandant, and a representative from the Office of the MCA in Shabaab ward.

Calls for interactive, youth-driven dialogues held in community spaces, schools, or online platforms where young people discuss conflict resolution, share personal stories, and co-create peacebuilding strategies; a multimedia campaign (blogs, podcasts, social media posts) under a unifying hashtag like #YouthForChange, amplifying youth voices on local and national stages, Collaborative art projects where youth design and create murals, sculptures, or performances that reflect themes of peace, unity, and accountability and Training youth to conduct social audits of local government projects, ensuring resources are used effectively and transparently.
