Public University Lecturers in Nakuru are now demanding that Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba to resign over the plight of Lecturers that has paralyzed learning in public universities.
Addressing Press in Nakuru, the Lecturers accused the CS for failing to address issues raised by Lecturers.
Led by Bernard Ojiambo- the Branch Secretary Kenya University Staff Union Egerton University, they called on government to fully implement CBA 2025/2029.
They stated that the government has not demonstrated any move to end the University Lecturers’ strike.
“The CBA is running into arrears of 14 months since its cycle began,” he stated.
The Lecturers said time is now that government must fix the mess in all public Universities.
They cited mismanagement of resources attributing greatly to the mess in higher education institutions.
According to them, the President should ensure that three CSs; Education, Labour and Treasury get a show course letter why they have subjected the higher education institutions to the situation it is in now.
Ojiambo also weighed in on the new funding model, adding that there have been numerous finding models and none has worked.
According to him, the payroll of all public University workers should be from ex-checker and owned by Government.
They added that car loan and mortgage for University workers should be implemented, harmonize all salaries, and ensure quality education by working on the morale of workers through motivation.
On matters research, they stated that it cannot be achieved if the Lecturers are not supported.
They vowed not to respect anything far from return to work formula.
Shadrach Musungui- the Treasurer KUSU Egerton University Branch maintained that underfunding is what is affecting public Universities.
According to him, Household, HELB and scholarships should be funded fully to avert the death of public universities.
“Education in public universities is under threat because government has failed to fund. The funding model has failed and enough is enough,” he said.
