Sigh of relief for Nakuru West families affected by rising Lake Nakuru, as MP Arama seeks their compensation

Families that were affected by rising Lake Nakuru in Barut, and Mwariki in Nakuru West might just receive their compensation if a push by area MP Samwel Arama sails through.

The families felt devastating effects of the lake Nakuru rising water levels.

Their houses and property of unknown value was swallowed by the rising water that made to their homesteads.

In addition, crops of unknown value was also destroyed.

MP Arama has taken up the matter pushing towards their compensation, in what he added that he has had talks with the President over the same.

The Lawmaker recently held a meeting with the leaders of the affected individuals to chat way forward, calling on affected families to also collaborate with government on the process.

During the meeting, Arama also raised the issue of arrests of young people who have been engaging in fishing activities within Lake Nakuru.

According to the MP, some are even in remand as they await their case.

He was categorical that he has raised the matter with the President on finding amicable solution.

The Legislator however warn residents against invading Lake Nakuru National Park with illegal fishing, but rather adhere to government directive that banned fishing in Lake Nakuru as the fish is not fit for human consumption owing to a research that showed that the presence of heavy metals.

According to him, despite government banning the fishing activities, there is possibility that some KWS officers are engaged in fishing that has seen even young people wonder why they are denied the opportunity to fish yet fishing is ongoing.

During the meeting, Arama revealed that he has had talks with governor Susan Kihika towards finding a lasting solution.
