The Government is working towards reforms in the National Youth Service.
President William Ruto who presided over the 89th NYS recruits pass out parade in Gilgil on Thursday August 28, 2025 revealed the same.
He said this will ensure youth are equipped with relevant market skills and qualifications.
“We are undertaking far-reaching reforms to transform the National Youth Service (NYS) into a dynamic and productive institution; one that is truly fit for purpose, and capable of equipping our young people with market-relevant skills and qualifications that prepare them for the opportunities of the modern job market,” he said.
According to the Head of State, through structured training with industry partners, NYS graduates will be able to advance into higher learning, join disciplined services to defend peace and security, or venture into enterprise.
To ensure more young Kenyans benefit, President Ruto noted that the government is expanding recruitment into the NYS from the current 20,000 to 100,000 by the year 2028, the largest expansion in its history.
The event was also graced by Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, MP Martha Wangari(Gilgil), County Commissioner Loyford Kibara among others.
It should be noted that during the event held at the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil, over 18,000 recruits graduated.
