Workers have a reason to smile following President William Ruto’s announcement to have an increase in the minimum wage.
The President made it clear that there should be atleast six percent increment in minimum wage.
According to President Ruto, this will ensure better welfare for workers whom he lauded for their continued support towards economic transformation.
He made the remarks when he addressed during the 59th International Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
The Head of State directed Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore to spearhead the process of raising the minimum wage by at least six per cent.
“I urge the relevant authorities, particularly the Ministry of Labour, to convene a meeting with the appropriate committee to discuss and implement a minimum wage increase of at least 6 per cent,” he said.
