Nakuru-based Journalist Wanjeri Kariuki, the Kameme Tv & Radio reporter who was shot thrice during the Gen z protests on July 16, 2024 while covering the protests in Nakuru has just won the Kenya Editors’ Guild Resilience Award.
Wanjeri won the Award in an event held in Nakuru’s Sarova Woodlands Hotel on Saturday November 30, 2024.
This was during the 7th annual Kenya Editors’ Guild Convention 2024.
Speaking during the Award ceremony, Wanjeri thanked the Kenya Editors’ Guild for recognizing her resilience.
She revealed that this is the first Award in her profession as a Journalist.
“Professionally this is the first Award and I’m very grateful,” she stated.
She recalled the July incident where she was shot thrice by a suspected rogue police officer, and thanked all those who stood by her during her recuperation at the hospital.
It should be noted that Wanjeri’s case is with Independent Police Oversight Authority.
