Nakuru County Assembly Deputy Speaker Anthony Kanyere alias Geru has raised alarm over security lights vandalism in Nakuru East Ward.
Kanyere who is also the MCA for the said regretted that such was happening hindering development.
According to him, the vandalism happened on Tuesday July 21, 2026 along Oginga Odinga street near kwa Murogi area.
Through the vandalism, six metal electric poles were lost.
MCA Kanyere condemned the incident, adding that the county government invests so much in street lights.
He called on members of the public to remain vigilant and ensure no more vandalism and that those behind the same should face the law.
“Last night we lost six metal electrical poles through vandalism along Oginga Odinga street near kwa Murogi. This is a bad exercise since we invest so much resources in streetlights only to be vandalized. I urge members of the public to be vigilant and report anyone found with these poles,” he stated.
Opinion leader Steve Gitukia on his side termed the incident not only vandalism and thurgery, but sabotage of very critical infrastructure.
He called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations – DCI to investigate and bring the culprits to book and the buyers whom he said are most probably scrap metal dealers.
