Members of the creative industry in Nakuru have raised concerns over what they term as denial if budget for the sector.
The members on Tuesday February 17, 2026 held peaceful protests in Nakuru City CBD before submitting a petition to the County Assembly of Nakuru.
In the petition, the creatives have faulted the Culture Docket over failure to allocate budget, adding that for many years they have been sidelined in terms of budget allocation.
They demand a full report on the resources allocated to the Creative Industry for recent three financial years and how the resources were used.
The creatives also want an explanation why the Culture Department has no Director since the exit of former in 2022.
The petitioners also want the County Assembly members to raise questions as to why the Culture docket has never been given special vote.
Last, the petitioners are demanding that the City Manager and the Finance docket to explain what they have done so far since Nakuru received the status of a Creative City in 2023.
Addressing journalists outside the County Assembly of Nakuru after submitting the petition, the creatives led by Shizo Mkenya, they raised concerns as to why creatives in Nakuru are underpaid whenever they perform yet visiting creatives receive lion’s share.
According to them, during various public participation, they proposed that there be allocation for creatives’ studio, policy for creative industry among others.
To their surprise, this has never been considered by the relevant docket despite the proposals having beeb factored in County Intergrated Development Plan(CID).
“We went for public participation as creatives and made our proposals. But we are shocked that there has been omission of the same and no allocation has been made in the financial years. This is the reason we have petitioned the MCAs over the same,” he stared.
Shizo Mkenya was categorical that as creatives, they are tired of being ignored and sidelined, adding that they want to stamp authority that they will nolonger tolerate such.
According to hin, failure to allocate resources for the Creatives, then Nakuru City which prides as Creative Industry will die.
While citing Article 1 of the Constitution on sovereign Power of the people, he urged the MCAs to take action on the petition and ensure they protect the Creative Industry in Nakuru County.
If the MCAs fail to take action, the creatives in Nakuru Failure have vowed to move to court and demand justice.
“We believe in rule of law and that is why we are here. If the MCAs fail to work on this petition, we shall be moving to court so that justice can be served,” he said.
Sentiments echoed by creatives Elvis and Shykaz who called on MCAs to respect the creatives and work on the petition for a better Nakuru.
Duding the presser, the creatives also refuted claims of divisions among themselves.
According to them, such are propaganda meant to taint the image of creatives in Nakuru.
