Teachers have increasingly transitioning into politics after leaving the profession in Kenya to shape the nation through their assertions of leadership and communication skills.
In Nakuru, one such is the current MCA Mauche Ward Moses Koros.
Before venturing into politics, MCA Koros served as a Principal.
He narrates that while serving as Principal at Teret Secondary School in Mauche, it was not easy balancing between family and school management.
The school being a mixed boys and girls, he says he had to use all the skills he had to ensure high levels of discipline among learners.
A time when there was a wave of burning of schools by learners, Koros admits that he has to work closely with watchmen at the schools to avert any such incident.
This was tough for his family as a times he would sacrifice even sleep to attend to issues in school.
He was later transfered to Nakuru Central which is a Dayschool in Nakuru East Subcounty.
This, he says was reprieve from the former which was a boarding school that demanded a lot of attention.
The many challenges in manning a school seems to have been preparing his political journey ahead.
While at Nakuru Central Secondary School, his political journey began, where after school he would go around Mauche Ward meeting various groups to air his aspirations.
He would later on retire from teaching profession into political space.
In 2022 general polls, Koros emerged the winner on UDA ticket.
Having mastered the art of management and communication as he used to do in teaching profession, the Mauche MCA has been able to transform Mauche Ward.
Through good working relationship with the county government of Nakuru, several roads in the area have been improved, residents are able to access clean water through the drilling of boreholes and piping.
The MCA who believes in nurturing talents among young people is also working with various stakeholders towards nurturing sports.
“Having worked as a Principal before, I know the challenges that face young people and families as a whole. We shall continue to work towards addressing such even as I serve as MCA now,” he says.
But they say once a teacher always a teacher and for MCA Koros, he believes in things being done the right way.
